To The Work!

Posted by Michael La Framboise on Monday, October 25, 2021, In : Meditations

An old hymn came to mind the other day, and as I listened to the words, I couldn’t help but be transported back in time. There I was in my grandpa’s church; everyone was there. Grandma was at the piano playing the song as only she could; Grandpa was standing on the platform singing away as the song leader waved his hand with the tempo of Fanny Crosby’s “To the Work.” My aunts and uncles and cousins were there, along with my own family. During the chorus I can hear the echo of grandp...

What Jerry Osborne’s Life Can Teach Us

Posted by Michael La Framboise on Sunday, October 25, 2020, In : Meditations

My Grandpa, Jerry Osborne, faithfully served the Lord for 46 years as a pastor committed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. After he passed away, his sermon notes and preaching Bible were stored away in a large old-fashioned trunk in the garage where they remained undisturbed and quiet for nearly 20 years. Then, as providence would have it, on the night of July 4th (one of Jerry’s favorite holidays), 2015, that garage was set ablaze by the embers of illegal fireworks. I had always intended to s...

Back When Pastor Jerry Osborne was 40

Posted by Michael La Framboise on Friday, October 25, 2019, In : Meditations
I turned 40 this year, and I can’t help but think of what my grandfather, Pastor Jerry Osborne, was up to when he was 40 back in 1968. He and my grandmother celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary, and they had four children living at home ages 16, 15, 12, and 10. His ministry at the corner of Norwalk & Alondra was doing well after 16 years, although Jerry was still driving a bus for the school district to make ends meet. His ministry was truly a family affair and I believe his surviving...

Who Will Raise The Standard?

Posted by Michael La Framboise on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, In : Meditations

One of the greatest dramatic moments in American film takes place in the third act of Glory, when Private Silas Tripp (Denzel Washington) witnesses the regiment’s standard- the American flag- fall to the ground. As the soldier carrying the flag is shot dead on the battlefield, Silas takes up the standard once more and carries the banner forward, rallying the troops to continue their ill-fated charge against Fort Wagner.

As I think about my Grandpa today, I think of the first time I ever saw ...

Don't Disturb The Roots

Posted by Michael La Framboise on Saturday, October 25, 2014, In : Meditations
“Grandpa.” Oh, how I miss him, for his memory and faithful legacy are at the root of all that I am.

When I was five, I remember watching the 1984 Summer Olympics and being fascinated by the gymnastics event on the rings. It was Grandpa who encouraged my athleticism and put up a pair of rings on a tree in his backyard where I could play, and pretend I was an Olympian. And there are so many other things I remember about him...

On a hot day he always had change for the coke machine at the chu...

Election Blues 2012

Posted by Michael La Framboise on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, In : Politics
Hey Christian, do you have Election Blues?

I know many do for Facebook testifies of it. I could hardly get to sleep last night because my wife's phone was blowing up with notifications of various posts! It was sad to see. I don't like to see people frustrated and upset any more than the next person. Then I thought, maybe we as Christians are holding this a little too close to the vest.

Take a spiritual walk with me; let’s re-group. Perhaps, I can encourage you in your Faith, if not your count...

Fasting and Furious

Posted by Michael A. La Framboise on Monday, April 18, 2011, In : Meditations
The punch-line to the old joke is true. If you haven’t bumped into the Devil lately, maybe it because your both going the same way. Spiritual warfare is something few believers understand because so few of us ever enlist in God’s battles. We’re too busy to engage the Enemy, and often we’re so focused on ourselves we hardly even really believe there’s even a spiritual war being waged. However, those who have taken the whole armor of God, and suited up for combat to take a stand again...

Alicia's Poem

Posted by Michael A. La Framboise on Sunday, August 23, 2009, In : Poems

While attending Biola University I had the priviledge of making the acquaintance of a woman named Alicia. During one of our class sessions in the Summer of 2009 she shared this poem which deeply blessed me, and perhaps it will bless you too.

Alicia’s Poem

A Journey for the search of truth I've begun,

Unsure of how I'll get there but I'm sure I won't run.

After years of rebellion and searching in the dark,

I have experienced He who can heal my heart.

Was blinded by frustration and an...
